Frequently Asked Questions.

Why should I join Greek Life?

Joining Greek Life is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that cannot be missed out on. The brothers you gain during your membership remain your closest friends for life and will, without doubt, have your back at all times. The relationships with them are only a fraction of the networking you will have access to. From alumni brothers to members of other organizations, you will be able to grow in leadership and social experience. Through these connections, access to future internships and employment through recommendations is another long-term benefit. It would remiss not to mention the plethora of social and brotherhood events.

There is a notion that those that join Greek organizations essentially pay for their friends; this idea is false. The payment goes to ensure the organization is well funded and properly run, while the benefits present are undeniable. This is one of the best decisions a student can make throughout his career.

The motto "not for college days alone," rings true. This will be your brotherhood for life.

Where did the name FIJI come from?

Because the fraternity bylaws hold the letters of the organization as sacred, the letters are never displayed on anything that can be easily destroyed, thus the nicknames “FIJI” or “Phi Gam” are used for reference.

The nickname "FIJI" arose as a suggestion for the Fraternity magazine at New York University in the 1890s. In 1894, it was officially adopted as an appropriate nickname for the fraternity.

Are there any scholarships or ways the chapter can assist me with financial commitments?

We want all brothers, regardless of financial situations, to be able to actively participate in the organization and our activities. There are many resources accessible to all members:

  • Brothers at the chapter are willing to form payment plans with members to those unable to pay the entirety of the dues upfront. The payment will be split over a course of time.

  • The national organization offers the AAA Scholarship to members with a great academic performance. A 3.2 GPA during your pledging semester will have you receive a $250 scholarship from the national organization.

  • Thousands of dollars are given out yearly to undergrads that exhibit excellence in academic performance, leadership, and community service by the Nu Beta Alumni Association (NBAA).

Several other opportunities are present as well.
